On April 17, 2017, SDFTY held its inaugural event at Oberlin College. As part of Oberlin’s Queerfest, a week of LGBTQ activities, SDFTY brought in Christine Howey to perform her one woman show, “Exact Change.” A native Clevelander, Howey is a poet and playwright whose work focuses on issues of parenthood, gender, sexual orientation, and bullying. One trans student described Howey’s stellar, sold-out performance as “edgy, hilarious, but also powerful and enlightening. It showed me that when you transition, life does not have to end.” Prior to the show, Howey joined Board Members Adam and Eric Price to facilitate a panel, Envisioning the Future: A Forum for Trans and Gender Non-Conforming Students.
